OTTUMWA —
The Indian Hills Community College Homecoming for 2012 will open at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, when the Des Moines Big Band performs in St. John Auditorium.
Bianca Myers, the college alumni coordinator, said that one of the college’s new ventures is to encourage grade-school students to participate in an upcoming scholarship program.
“It’s free to grades three through eight, and students can register with their physical education teachers,” Myers said.
There will be an annual 5K Race/Walk the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 3. The races will start at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with kids’ races following the 5K races at 6:30 p.m.
“That’s not new, it’s just a change,” Myers said.
Friday, Oct. 5, will feature the annual Centerville Homecoming reception, which is open to all alumni and friends of Indian Hills, especially those who attended the Centerville campus.
There will also be a Hotel Continental event at 4-7 p.m. Oct. 5, on the Centerville Square.
Myers then noted the Saturday, Oct. 6, events will be in Ottumwa and included are the traditional events, such as the college’s numerous entries in the Oktoberfest Parade.
“Two new events will be the Computer Programming Reunion, and that’s 2-4 p.m. in Warrior Junction,” Myers said. “Then we’ll have the nursing reunion, also 2-4 p.m., in the Rural Health Education Center.”
She also noted there will be a car show from noon to 4 p.m., and various athletic teams will have games. There will also be a free children’s carnival and craft fair.
Homecoming will conclude with receptions, which are followed by a soccer game.
“There will be other activities during the week for students,” Myers said. “The focus is to bring community to the campus on Saturday. We hope to get the alumni back because we like to show off what we have and showcase Indian Hills to the community.”
