OTTUMWA — A 17-year-old girl was taken from a house on the east end of Ottumwa at knifepoint Tuesday night.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, the Ottumwa Police Department received a report of a disturbance at 203 S. Adams Ave.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a female at the residence was assaulted and forcibly removed from the residence by an individual armed with a machete.
"Officers learned the suspect had left with the victim in a vehicle," said Lt. Tom McAndrew. "While officers were at the residence, the suspect returned without the victim."
Abraham Anthony Barraza, 30, who lives at the residence, was immediately arrested on outstanding warrants for serious assault and serious domestic abuse stemming from an incident at the residence on Monday.
"Then we located the female at another residence on the south side of Ottumwa," McAndrew said. "After interviewing her and other witnesses, we made the arrest for kidnapping."
Barraza was charged with second-degree kidnapping, a Class B felony.
McAndrew said the victim showed "no obvious injuries."
Barraza is currently being held in Wapello County Jail on $100,000 cash-only bond.
Barraza has previously been charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury, willful injury, harassment and controlled substance violations.
