CENTERVILLE —
A whole week’s worth of family fun and entertainment gets under way next week at the 2010 Appanoose County Fair.
The annual fair is a must-attend event for many.
“It’s a family tradition for me,” said Fair board member Jackie Redinbaugh. “It’s something I was brought up with.”
She said the fair serves as a touchstone for many southern Iowans.
‘It brings family together, especially in the rural area,” Redinbaugh said.
While many fair favorites are back this year, a new event has Redinbaugh and others excited.
Tonny Petersen’s Hell Drivers will perform a 8 p.m. Friday.
“It’s a car thrill show,” said Redinbaugh. “We’ve never had that before.”
But entertainment aside, Redinbaugh notes that the fair board and a large group of volunteers put in numerous hours to get things ready for those who attend, especially the youngsters, including 4-H and FFA members.
“You know the kids learn a lot. The fair instills leadership and responsibility,” she said, adding the kids “learn so many things [at the fair] they don’t necessarily learn anywhere else.”
The fair gets under way Sunday night and continues until next Saturday.
