OTTUMWA —
A rural county road sometimes used as a “party spot” has been reclassified.
At the Wapello County Board of Supervisors meeting this week, Supervisor Greg Kenning said they reclassified 14th Street (north of Floris) from “Class B” to “Class C,” which means it will have minimal maintenance but also minimal traffic.
“It has only a couple of farms at both ends of it, but those folks were complaining it was being used as almost some kind of party spot, so we put a gate at both ends,” Kenning said.
The supervisors also approved a peer visit from information technology professionals to examine technology issues in the county departments.
“They’re giving us a technology once-over, to see if there are things we can improve,” Kenning said. “They’re mainly going to see if ... there are too many, too few servers, that sort of thing.”
The supervisors also appointed the newly elected sheriff, Mark Miller, to the 911 Board, replacing Don Kirkendall due to his retirement. The 911 Board is in charge of emergency services in the county, which includes the new communications tower going up on the site of the former Washington Junior High School.
