Lattys new managers for campground
OTTUMWA — City officials have hired new managers for the campground at Ottumwa Park for the 2010 season.
Jack and Joan Latty, who own property in Ottumwa, were hired last month as campground managers. They will begin in early April.
Jack Latty said the couple has family in Ottumwa, which was one of the reasons they applied for the job.
“We look forward to every job we do. It’s something we’ve been doing for a long time and we enjoy it,” he said.
The Lattys have previous experience managing federal, state and private campgrounds.
Janet Richards, the city’s human resources manager, said they received four resumes for the job and conducted three interviews last month.
Since they are seasonal employees, they will have to reapply for the position next year, Richards said. The couple will make about $360 per week.
City officials terminated former campground managers Doug and Bonnie Creamer, who had managed the campground for 11 years, which sparked residents, friends and campers to voice their opinions against the decision.
City officials said in November that the issue was a personnel matter and would not give any more information. Doug Creamer told the Courier in November that he was told there were several complaints against the couple but no specific details.
Councilman Brian Morgan proposed hiring the Creamers back at a council meeting last month, but that measure was voted down in a 3-2 vote.
