Council discusses grant for airport infrastructure improvements
Public hearing set for Feb. 16
OTTUMWA — City officials are waiting to find out if Ottumwa was approved for a $1.5 million grant for infrastructure improvements at the airport.
But until then, they have to prepare for the projects as if the grant money isn’t approved, said City Administrator Joe Helfenberger.
“We’ve had verbal discussions that look favorable,” he said, but nothing in writing.
At their meeting Monday, the council approved setting 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 as a public hearing on the authorization of a loan agreement and the issuance of not to exceed $600,000 general obligation capital loan notes.
“We are taking a major step to enhance economic development,” said Councilman Bob Meyers.
If the EDA grant money is not approved, the capital loan notes will be used to assist the Ottumwa Waterworks in infrastructure improvements at the airport.
The Ottumwa Water Works has pledged $1,579,000 for the project.
Also at Monday’s meeting:
• Approved a change order, accepting a project as final and complete and approving the final pay request re: the Ottumwanoc Tribal Trail Connection (Gray Eagle Extension).
• Approved a second change order, accepting the work as final and complete and approving the final pay request for the Sanitary Utility Access Program 2008.
