BLOOMFIELD —
Logs rolling around? Trackless train? Throwing axes? What’s going on?
No need to worry. It’s only part of the fun coming up at the Davis County Fair, which officially opens Monday and runs through Sunday, July 15.
The part fairgoers enjoy starts Wednesday and ends next Saturday.
Marcia Bear, a member of the Davis County Fair Board, assists the board by finding entertainment for the fair. She also helps wherever she’s needed.
Bear said one of the major Saturday attractions at the fair will be Colt Ford. Bear said Ford is “kind of a country-Western rapper.”
His performance will be at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14, and tickets are now on sale at the fair’s website, which is www.daviscountyfair.org.
Other entertainment at the fair will include harness racing, which will start after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
“Harness racing is a long-standing tradition at our fair,” Bear said.
For Wednesday evening, the major fun event will be the Twin States Truck and Tractor Pull, which will start at 7:30 p.m. under the grandstand.
Car racing will headline the fair Thursday and Friday evenings. On Thursday, the sprint car races will start at 7:30 p.m. and will feature winged Sprints 305 Super Series Springs.
For Friday evening, the stock cars will headline the evening entertainment and provide the “regular lineup of stuff,” Bear said.
The Demo Derby will take center stage Sunday evening.
Bear noted the fair schedule includes a lot of free entertainment, including free admission and free parking.
“When families get on the fairground, there are several free shows they can take part in,” Bear said. “The daily free shows include Miller’s Petting Zoo and Miller’s Zoo Choo, which is a free trackless train ride that kids and adults can enjoy.”
Another free event is the All-American Lumberjack Show, which will be at the fair Wednesday through Saturday. The show includes log rolling and ax throwing.
“In conjunction with that, there’s a kids’ lumberjack sport camp where they show kids how to do log rolling,” Bear said. “The fair had this act four years ago, and the kids enjoyed the pool and the refreshing splash.”
Each fair day — Wednesday through Saturday — will include the Kid Bucks Game Shows. Bear said it’s an “interactive game show for the whole family.” People are randomly selected from the audience, and the winner “grabs the bucks,” which can be spent on trinkets and carnival prizes.
Bear also noted the Davis County Fair has a lot more to offer, such as the Queen Contest at 7 p.m. Wednesday and a remote control car exhibition set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
