OTTUMWA —
Wapello County’s tourist attractions will soon have a promoter if the county’s board of supervisors approve the project next week.
Supervisor Steve Siegel said Friday that Holly Berg and Mark Eckman had applied for a grant that would create a 26-hour position for someone “to promote the American Gothic House and Ottumwa tourism.”
Currently, Berg promotes the American Gothic House and Eckman handles Ottumwa and the surrounding area through the Ottumwa’s Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“Eighty percent of the grant will be 22 hours, although the board will consider making up the difference so we can have the 26 hours,” Siegel said. “It’ll be a great position to help promote our tourist attractions in Wapello County.”
In other business, the board members will discuss approving a medical examiner grant. Siegel said the application had gone in “some time ago.”
Siegel said the grant would allow Aaron Vose to attend medical examiner training Aug. 6-10 at St. Louis University.
The supervisors will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the county courthouse. The meeting is open to the public.
