OTTUMWA —
An Ottumwa man likely died after accidentally falling from the Turkey Island Bridge on Thursday.
The body of David Jerome Pettyjohn, 52, of Ottumwa, was found underneath the railroad bridge east of Quincy Avenue.
Lt. Tom McAndrew said Pettyjohn was reported missing Wednesday night.
“This morning, we received a report of a body located underneath the railroad tracks under the bridge that crosses from Turkey Island in the Black Hawk access area,” McAndrew said.
Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene at approximately 10:51 a.m. Thursday and found the body.
The body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Officer for an autopsy.
