OTTUMWA —
The design plan to redevelop Douma Elementary School has been approved by the Ottumwa school board
The project, with a total budget of $4.9 million, will renovate the entire building to serve as the district’s new kindergarten and first-grade learning center on Ottumwa’s south side.
The remodeling will include replacing all flooring; removing movable partitions; replacing the ceiling; remodeling restrooms; upgrading the kitchen, mechanical and electrical systems; and bringing the building into compliance with building codes.
The plans include the addition of a multi-purpose room and main entrance; new parking lot; geothermal heating and cooling system; and new playground.
Construction is expected to start this July with a completion date of July 2014. The design development of Douma Elementary was by FRK Architects and Engineers.
