OTTUMWA —
The Salvation Army will be able to put even more food than expected on plates this fall.
Ottumwa’s North and South Hy-Vee stores donated 30 turkeys and 600 dinner rolls for the Salvation Army’s annual Thanksgiving dinner, but store director Max Dains said the stores also had the opportunity to donate 200 pounds of pork this year.
“We feed 200 people per day,” said Capt. Tabitha Knuth. “This will be enough pork for three meals — that’s about 600 people.”
The pork will go toward the Salvation Army’s senior feeding program, feeding those age 60 and older.
“We’re so thankful for the donation,” said Capt. Oliver Knuth, Tabitha’s husband. “It helps us feed and it helps with some of our costs.”
The Thanksgiving dinner is open to everyone, the Knuths said. It will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 at the Salvation Army’s Worship and Community Center, 725 W. Second St.
