Forty years ago, on Jan. 22, 1973, seven members of the U.S. Supreme Court decided to throw out the abortion laws of every state in the union. A generation of Americans have had approximately one-fourth of their brothers and sisters destroyed before birth because of two U.S. Supreme Court decisions, Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. More than 55 million children have faced the cruel tools of an abortionist, and every day women who need real help go through the doors of a clinic and come out, never to be the same again. Our society will never know the enormous toll this immense loss of life has taken on our nation.
Forty years of abortion on demand have allowed government and society to get away with not providing real choices to women in crisis. Abortion doesn’t solve problems, it only creates new ones. Abortion doesn’t help women, it hurts them.
Right now in Iowa, 13 babies a day lose their lives to abortion. That is one kindergarten class every two days.
Jan. 20 is a national day set aside to reflect on the Sanctity of Human Life. Our country needs to get back to a place where we sincerely value human life, because the life of every human being, including the unborn, should be treasured and protected by law. Life is something that is too precious for which not to fight.
