City needs to be run differently
I have been a resident of this city for the last four years. I came from a town of about the same size from the West Coast. And I can tell you now that this city needs to be run differently.
I have never seen so many homes in disrepair, the lack of city code or unwillingness to enforce it. Where I’m from, there is not a sales tax, and the wages are competitive; so are the property taxes. I don’t understand why this city looks the way that it does.
Also, I have never seen such an abuse of power by our local law enforcement. I guess I just don't understand. If we would take care of our city and the people that live in it, maybe the people that live here just might take pride in where they live. We are throwing money in the wrong places.
I’m sorry, but I’ve seen a downfall in this city in the short time I’ve been here. Maybe that if we take a look at our city officials or just in their pockets, we might find the problem.
I’m sorry if this letter seems harsh, but Ottumwa, please understand that there is something wrong with this city, and changes need to be made immediately.
There is enough potential in this town to fill two cities. I would love to drive on just one road in this town and not tear my vehicle up. Again, why are we having such a problem getting this right?
To reiterate, it’s long overdue, my friends, for a change in this town, and I only hope that the rest of you can see this, also.
