It’s not every day that the public gets the opportunity for an inside peek at the workings of a high-profile business in the community, especially one that impacts so many of us. But that is just what occurred when Eastview Animal Hospital held its holiday open house last Dec. 14. The Eastview veterinarians and staff opened the clinic doors to the community for an afternoon of education, fun activities and holiday cheer, to the delight of all who entered.
As guided tours were conducted through the clinic, information sessions were held in various exam rooms to discuss holiday pet hazards and numerous other items of interest and importance to pet owners. From a safe distance, a rare and fascinating opportunity was offered to view a sterilization procedure on one of 12 different adoptable animals from Heartland Humane Society Shelter. The veterinarians explained the procedures, and questions were answered each step of the way. These dogs and cats underwent spay and neuter procedures at no cost to Heartland, a gesture of outreach for which the shelter board and staff have been deeply appreciative.
Door prizes, refreshments and creative games were just some of the additional activities that kept the public engaged that afternoon. The newly sterilized animals came a step closer to being ready for adoption, and pet owners and would-be owners alike, came away with an increased knowledge and understanding of animal care and health. I am sure that I speak for many in thanking the staff and Drs. Beth Doggett, Jan Tallman and Kathryn Franz for inviting the community to share in this delightful pre-holiday treat. Let’s hope that it becomes an annual affair.
