Unfortunately, while reading a letter to the editor published in the Sept. 22 edition regarding the Iowa Supreme Court, the letter writer incorrectly states the purpose of the Supreme Court. While it is true that the Legislature is responsible for making the laws, it is the responsibility of the court to interpret those laws and to determine the legality of said laws. This is exactly what the court did. They interpreted and clarified the legality of the language of a law. This is simple civics class material.
