OTTUMWA —
I was so delighted to see that my good friend, John Hunolt, has been recognized and awarded the Gene Schultz Community Service Award. I cannot think of anyone in Ottumwa more worthy of such an honor.
I was fortunate to be John's colleague at Vocational Rehabilitation. I do not think I have ever met someone so dedicated to helping others, and I say that with all sincerity.
In 2004, I developed an illness that caused me to have to leave employment. When friends left, not understanding my illness, John never wavered in his support for me. I can always count on him to be a true friend, not a fair-weather friend. His commitment to others is pure and honest. He does not simply do things for personal gain.
It is difficult to keep this letter short, because John is a wonderful volunteer, but an even better friend. I have been honored to know him.
