DRAKESVILLE —
I have recently experienced the warmth and compassion of the human spirit. I have been the vocalist of the Indian Hills Jazz Band for a number of years, have sung in the band “Bump Ugly” out of Albia, ran my own karaoke business for a number of years and won some karaoke contests in the past. With this in mind, I chose to go audition for NBC’s “The Voice” in Chicago on Jan. 12. It was an amazing experience that I will cherish but fell short of the feelings aroused in me from the support of friends, family and acquaintances.
When I let it be known that I planned on this, I daringly asked (by way of a post on Facebook, mass texts and a jar at Noe’s Bar & Grill on South Madison) for people to help out with gas money by donating one or two dollars. THE RESPONSE WAS OVERWHELMING! Not only did the jar get quite a bit of action but a few friends and local business owners donated rather heartily. I feel so very blessed to have friends and family of this magnitude. Of course, I was not chosen to continue on in the show, but the warmth I feel is absolutely wonderful! I want to openly thank everybody for the support for it truly shows what we are today as loving human beings.
