OTTUMWA —
We would like thank everyone who helped with and attended the annual SIEDA Parents As Teachers Literacy Fair on June 28.
This event was a community literacy event for families with newborns to children up to age 5, and the theme this year was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Families in attendance had the opportunity to participate in several different activity stations. Each station’s activities related to literacy and child development for children. All of the families in attendance also received three children’s books and several take-home activities to do with their children.
With that said, we would like to send out a huge thank you to the M/W Early Childhood Iowa Board for funding the event and Christ’s Church for the use of their building and sound system. We would also like to thank the following community vendors for their time and valuable information: The Wapello County Rural Fire Department, American Home Finding — Child Care Nurse Consultant and I-Smile Coordinator, the Ottumwa Public Library, SIEDA Child and Adult Care Food Program, SIEDA Family Development and Self Sufficiency Program, SIEDA Substance Abuse Services and SIEDA MIECHV Program. A special thanks to all of the volunteers: Crystal James, Electa Richards, Donna Leedall and Mary Johnson; two very helpful high school students, Jordan Young and Ellen Willhoit; and many SIEDA employees who graciously donated their time to help. Last of all, we would like to thank all the families who attended, for without them it would not have been the success that it was.
