This year, I am thankful for the fact that my flower shop is virtually inaccessible due to the work being done at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and North Court Street. I am especially thankful for the timing. It will be so relaxing this holiday shopping season. Usually Black Friday is a zoo around here, but this year I will finally be able to catch up on my soaps. Sure, this is the time of year that I make most of my money, but it will be good for my wife and children to really understand what hunger is. Do we really need to eat EVERY day?
It’s not like no one can get to us. All of our customers who use a helicopter as their main mode of transportation will have easy access to our roomy parking lot. Most years our copter shoppers can’t find an open spot to land. They, too, must be very thankful for the timing of this project.
There is actually one street open to our parking lot. West Street, which can be accessed from Albany Street, should be convenient enough for those few shoppers who still travel by car. West Street is practically a main thoroughfare. It is wide enough that I can barely straddle it when my feet are spread shoulder-width apart. The retaining wall that ends just before the rear entrance to our parking lot may badly obstruct a driver’s view, but it should play right into our hands. The thrill seekers who crave danger and adventure are exactly the same people who love shopping for decorative vases and crystal figurines!
As my late father used to say, “When the road less traveled becomes your main entrance, you truly have a lot to be thankful for.”
