BLAKESBURG —
I’ve been trying to figure out what the “vote no on Justice Wiggins” crowd does not understand about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Do they not understand, “fair and equal protection under the law?” These are basic concepts of our democracy, which all citizens are entitled to. While I probably will never understand their mindset, I would like to remind them that Iowa has always been a freedom-loving and human rights state. On our flag it states, “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.” Let us not turn back the clock to where one human was less equal than another. The judiciary does not write law, it interprets it. I won’t tell you how to vote, nor will I let others tell me how to vote. But I will always stand up for the liberties and rights of others.
