YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Zach Davis threw for 162 yards and one touchdown to lead Northern Iowa to a 21-20 win over Youngstown State Saturday.
The Panthers blocked an extra point late in the fourth quarter to clinch the win. The Penguins’ Brandon Summers had just connected with Donald Jones for a 51-yard touchdown pass that appeared like it would enable Youngstown State to tie the game.
Derrick Law’s 1-yard touchdown run with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter ended up being the game-winning score for Northern Iowa.
The two teams were evenly matched throughout the game. Each team had 300 yards in total offense, with similar rushing totals — about 135 — and passing yards — roughly 165.
The Penguins (2-7, 1-4) were led by Summers, who threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns, and by Kamyrn Keys, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown. Corey Lewis’ 135 all-purpose yards, including 97 rushing, led the Panthers (6-2, 4-1).
