DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Drake amassed almost 300 yards on the ground and Pat Cashmore scored twice as the Bulldogs rolled past Campbell in a 45-0 rout.
Four Drake running backs scored in the game, though none broke the 100-yard mark. Drake coach Chris Creighton took home his first Pioneer Football League victory with the win.
“It was fun for the team to play well, win and feel good about themselves,” Creighton said. “It had been a rough stretch the last three weeks.”
The Bulldogs (3-4) had dropped their last three games before the home game against Campbell.
The defense came through for the Bulldogs as they picked off quarterback Matt Vollono, sacked Vollono and his two backups and forced two fumbles. The Bulldogs also limited Campbell to 84 yards rushing on 33 attempts.
The Fighting Camels (1-7) lost for the third consecutive game and could not get their offense going. The Bulldogs forced Campbell to punt seven times.
Campbell was led by running back C.J. Oates, who totaled 42 yards on the ground and quarterbacks Vollono and Alex Munro, who combined to throw for 103 yards on 12-for-17 passing.
The Fighting Camels’ sole bright spot in the defeat may have been the play of receiver Josh Severns, who caught five passes for 34 yards.
