‘Elves and The Shoemaker’ bring magic to Bridge View

OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa Community Children’s Playhouse to present “The Elves and The Shoemaker” Dec. 7-9 at the Bridge View Center.

This is the classic story of a shoemaker suffering through the hardships of war and loss who is given new hope when a young refugee enters his life. They struggle to make shoes, but the young refugee is constantly making mistakes. A group of elves is watching over the young boy, however, and use their magic to make shoes. The old shoemaker and the young boy grow closer as time goes by, as each realizes that even though things are different than they used to be, they can still find happiness.

“The Elves and the Shoemaker” has a cast of 50 children between the ages of 5-15. The show times are 7 p.m. Dec. 7-8 and 2 p.m. Dec. 9. Admission prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children.

With this show, OCCP will have completed its eighth season and plans on having a ninth season.

The first production of that season is “A Walk in the Woods” by Debbie Metzler. This is a play that unites some of your favorite fairy tale characters including Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Red Riding Hood, the Wolf, Hansel and Gretel, the Three Little Pigs plus others. Show dates for this play are April 12-14, 2013, at Bridge View.

The summer production will be Disney’s “Little Mermaid Jr.” produced by special arrangement with MTI. Show dates for this show are Sept. 6-8, 2013.

The final show of the season is “On the Worst Day of Christmas” by Faye Couch Reeves. Production dates for this show are Dec. 6-8, 2013.
