Sweets and Sounds set for Saturday

OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa middle and high school jazz bands and show choirs will host “Sweets and Sounds” beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at OHS.

The evening will begin with a variety of desserts and beverages served in the Ottumwa High School cafeteria, followed by jazz, dance and vocal performances.

The event features several jazz selections performed by Evans and OHS Jazz I combos. Selections will include: “Blue” by Bobby Shew and “Dusk to Dawn” by Mark Taylor.

The Evans show choir, Evans Rising Stars, will debut their 2013 show, featuring “ABC” by the Jackson 5, “Anyway” by Martina McBride and “Come On Ev’rybody” by Elvis Presley.

This choir features 26 seventh- and eighth-grade students who also participate in Concert Choir. The choir rehearses three times a week during advisory and spends additional time learning choreography.

The program will conclude with Sudden Impact’s upcoming show choir competition performance. Their performance includes “Stars,” originally performed by Switchfoot; “L-O-V-E/Ain’t That A Kick In The Head,” originally performed by Nat King Cole and Dean Martin; “Fly,” originally performed by Sara Groves; “Who’s The Man,” originally performed by the Border Ruffians; and “Real In Rio” from the motion picture “Rio.”

Admission to the event is $5 per person, with proceeds supporting district music activities.
