SEISO Young Artist winner to perform in concert
OTTUMWA — The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, directed by Robert McConnell, continues its 59th season with the winter concert series featuring a guest appearance by pianist Taylor Fulton, SEISO’s Young Artist winner.
The orchestra will perform of Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 5 in e minor” and Berlioz’s “Roman Carnival Overture.”
The first concert will be 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in Indian Hills St. John Auditorium in Ottumwa.
Two additional performances will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 in Burlington’s Memorial Auditorium and also at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel Auditorium at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.
The SEISO Winter Concert Series is sponsored through the Ottumwa Courier and the Burlington Hawk Eye.
Pianist Taylor Fulton is the winner of the 2009 Marilyn Minford McCoid Young Artist Competition. In December 2009, she won first place in the orchestra's annual competition out of a field of six high school musicians.
Fulton will perform the final movement from Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 13 in C Major.”
Fulton began playing piano just before she turned age 4. For the past 12 years , she has studied with Susan See of Washington and has received numerous honors from the Iowa Music Teachers Association piano competitions in levels A through E. She was named first alternate for the State level C and honorable mention for levels B, C, D and E. In 2007, she was chosen by audition to perform Chopin's “Military Polanaise” with Piano 4.
A junior at Iowa Mennonite High School, she is the daughter of Rick and Annette Fulton of Crawfordsville.
Admission to the concert series in Ottumwa, Burlington and Mt. Pleasant is by season ticket or at the door. Adult tickets are $12; student tickets $6; children under 12 admitted free. Reservations are not required.
Audience members also may attend the free “Prelude.” Music Director Robert McConnell will be on hand 45 minutes before performances in Ottumwa, Burlington and Mt. Pleasant to talk about the music and the orchestra’s young artists.
