KEOSAUQUA —
The Van Buren Players board has announced “Chicago” as its winter production for 2013, the 50th year of Van Buren Player productions.
“Chicago” is based on two actual murders in 1920s Chicago. The musical recreates the circus atmosphere of the trials and highlights the celebrity criminals created. Murder cases became the talk of the town. Newspaper reporters had 24-hour access to the Cook County Jail, and their job was to make stars out of the prisoners there. This “Jazz Age” musical is their story.
The “Chicago” production staff includes David and Kathleen Paulek directing; Linda Mitcheltree, music director; and Stefany Wells, choreographer.
The casting will be done this fall and rehearsals will begin after the holidays.
There is a tremendous amount of dancing in this show. Those interested should contact Stef Wells at 641-680-0891.
Those interested in chorus or orchestra, contact Linda Mitcheltree at 319-293-3620.
Those interested in the leads or speaking roles should contact David at Kathleen Paulek at 319-293-3814. All auditions will be set up in October.
Production dates for “Chicago” will be March 1-3, 2013.
Those interested in contributing pictures to the Players’ 50th anniversary display and a planned celebration over Memorial Day weekend should contact Barb Morris at 319-293-3716.
