OTTUMWA —
“Twist and Shout,” a one-person exhibit by Clear Lake artist Jaclyn Garlock, will open with a public reception in the Indian Hills Community College Art Gallery on Feb. 25. Garlock will be present to visit and answer questions from 7-8:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served in the gallery on the college’s Ottumwa Campus.
Garlock’s art has blossomed over the years since she and her brother opened a screen print business printing on garments and posters in 1975. Managing the business’ art and production, she learned to do the commercial work by the seat of her pants as these were pre-computer days so the early art work was done mostly by hand.
Garlock began working on art prints and refined techniques that she later implemented in making very complex photo-real image silkscreens, all hand-drawn and hand-pulled. Beginning in 1989, these works were marketed privately and through major art fairs in cities throughout the Midwest.
She has worked for the last few years building a body of work and showing paintings.
The exhibition will be on view through March 28. The Indian Hills Art Gallery is located in the library on the Ottumwa campus of Indian Hills Community College at 525 Grandview Ave. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8:40 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 4:30-9 p.m. on Sundays.
