Albia Community Choir to give encore performance April 7

CENTERVILLE — Concertgoers in southern Iowa will have the opportunity to enjoy an encore performance of the Albia Community Chorus at 2:30 p.m. April 7 in the Simon Estes Auditorium in Centerville.

The Centerville Concert Association is sponsoring the performance as a bonus in the 2012-13 series. The Albia group has expanded their numbers this year and includes singers from all the counties surrounding Albia. The show in Centerville will be a repeat of a concert in Albia at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. April 6.

The Albia Community Chorus consists of 40 members from Albia, Bloomfield, Centerville, Chariton, Corydon, Oskaloosa and the Iowa City areas. The group rehearses every Monday and includes music educators and other talented musicians from many walks of life. All of the performing members sing for the joy of the aesthetic reward of musical performance. The director, Paul Peterson, is a retired educator from the Albia school district and has conducted many festivals and shows across the state.

The concert will feature a wide variety of choral music, a cappella and accompanied. The  selections include a Gabrieli double chorus, madrigals and lighter tunes composed by Neil Diamond and Otis Redding. Audience members will hear classical, sacred, spirituals, pop and jazz.

There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend. A free will donation will be collected and all monies given will be used to fund vocal music scholarships.
