OTTUMWA —
Ottumwa band The War I Survived will release their second full-length album “The Great Expanse” on March 1 through Ottumwa-based label Speak Up Records. Following its release, the band will embark on a 10-day Midwest tour to promote the album’s completion.
Heavily laden with roaring guitar, a tight rhythm section, and a new female voice at the forefront of “The Great Expanse,” The War I Survived's sophomore album is a collection of 10 songs hailing a range of emotions backed by melodious hard rock. Songs include “Waiting,” a heartfelt anthem, and “We Lie,” an emotional call to action. The band called upon friends and fans to assist in yelling and singing throughout the album, creating a community within the music.
The War I Survived’s first full-length album “The Tank” released in October of 2011. As a three piece, with Nik Sorak at guitar, Cole Rutledge on bass, and Jason Bolinger on drums, the band began to perform for small towns all over Iowa. Completing a short tour following their first release, the band took a short hiatus in 2012, with both Nik and Cole growing their families. The band came back at the end of 2012 with a new band member in tow. Nalani Proctor took the reigns as front woman and main vocalist.
“With the addition of Nalani, we are all now focusing on our greatest strengths, and our music has greatly improved because of it,” said Sorak.
The War I Survived is looking to expand its fan-base beyond Iowa, hitting the adjoining states in their upcoming tour in March. The Great Expanse will also be released digitally, through internet databases such as iTunes, Amazon and Bandcamp.
