Augello to perform with symphony on March 24

OTTUMWA — The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Robert McConnell, will conclude its 62nd season with artist-in-residence Jen Augello at 3 p.m. March 24 at St. John Auditorium on the Indian Hills Community College campus in Ottumwa.

She will perform Mozart’s Concerto in A Major for Clarinet, K. 622. In addition, the orchestra will perform two powerful pieces, Weber’s “Overture to Der Freischütz” and the suites from Manuel de Falla’s ballet “El Sombrero de Tres Picos” or “Three Cornered Hat.”   

Other concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 23 at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington and 7:30 p.m. March 24 in the Iowa Wesleyan College chapel auditorium in Mount Pleasant.

Originally from the Chicago area, Augello began playing the clarinet at age 10. She went on to study with Maurita Mead at the University of Iowa, where she completed two bachelor’s degrees — one in music and the other in chemistry.

Admission to the spring concert series in Ottumwa, Burlington and Mount Pleasant is by season ticket or single tickets may be purchased at the door. Adult tickets are $15, and student tickets are $10. Children ages 12 and under are free of charge. There is no reserved seating.

In addition to her scheduled concerts, now through March 22, Augello will perform for more than 20 school, community and service groups through souehast Iowa.

Augello will perform a full recital during her residency at 4 p.m. March 19 at Pennsylvania Place in Ottumwa. The recitals are open to the public and free of charge.
