OTTUMWA —
The 2012 annual Indian Hills Community College Art Faculty Exhibition in the Ottumwa Campus Art Gallery will feature the recent artwork of full-time art faculty Mark McWhorter and Lisa Fritz.
The public is invited to the exhibit’s opening reception from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday. Refreshments will be served.
McWhorter has taught art studio and art history classes at Indian Hills since 1980. He also oversees the operation of the Indian Hills Art Gallery.
McWhorter’s art to be shown will include pottery and paintings in acrylics and watercolor. His stoneware pottery is made to be put to use. There will be a variety of platters, bowls, teapots and a few sculptural pieces. The subject matter for his paintings comes from many locations including southern Iowa, South Carolina and the American West.
Fritz began her teaching career at IHCC as an adjunct instructor in 1986. She became a full-time instructor, teaching art and graphic design courses, in 2010.
Fritz’s drawings and paintings in colored pencil, oil and watercolor feature an odd combination of seemingly unrelated objects. In the gently surrealistic worlds of her art, it is up to the viewer to tell the story.
The exhibition will be on display through Dec. 6. The Indian Hills Art Gallery is located in the Ottumwa campus library at 525 Grandview Ave. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8:40 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 4:30-9 p.m. on Sundays.
