MARTINSBURG —
Two rural Martinsburg neighbors will be featured in a new cable television program.
Sheri Locke and Gary Smith will be featured in the new program, “West End Salvage,” which will air its first episode at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 on HGTV (cable channel 62 in Ottumwa).
Locke and Smith, both pastors and business partners, said they were contacted about their business, “Buyers Edge Wholesalers,” after a film crew followed the two around at a market. They had been selling and doing their usual routine “which is just fun. We play off each other and it just works,” said Locke. “We like to have fun and it starts rubbing off on people I think. Pretty soon, people join in and it seems everyone is having fun. Good clean fun and it just comes natural.”
Buyer’s Edge wholesalers is a “picking” business that is the brainchild of the pair. Their idea was that retailers cannot take the time it takes to get out there and find inventory. They started a business on that premise with each of them having many contacts across the Midwest from which to pick. Smith and Locke now have nine warehouses filled with “anything and everything, unique, funky, architectural, country store, advertising, country paint, industrial and art.”
Locke said the new HGTV program will feature the Martinsburg duo in half of the 12 episodes that will air on HGTV.
