OTTUMWA —
Legendary Steinway artist Rosario Andino will perform a piano concerto at 3 p.m. Oct. 14 in St. John Auditorium on the Indian Hills Community College Ottumwa campus.
Andino began her musical studies at the age of four in her home country of Cuba. She graduated with highest honors from the Fishermann Conservatory in Havana, and then received a full scholarship to the Chatham Square Music School in New York City.
Andino has won the coveted Music Critics Circle Prize in Cuba as well as the Pittsburgh Society of Musical Arts Prize in the United States. She tours Europe, Mexico and the United States annually and has recorded works for piano and orchestra.
Andino’s repertoire includes works by Cuban, South American and Spanish composers. She specializes in all major and some lesser-known works from the baroque, classical, romantic and modern eras. Some contemporary composers have written and dedicated their works to Andino.
For her concerto at Indian Hills, Andino will perform works including Beethoven’s 32 Variations in C minor, Schumann’s Sonata #2 in G minor, Chopin’s Nocturne, 3 Waltzes and Ballade and Liszt’s paraphrase on Verdi’s Rigoletto. She will also include six Cuban dances by Saumell, Cervantes and Lecuona.
The performance is free and open to the public.
