Concert pianist to perform Sept. 20 at HCC
OTTUMWA — Internationally-acclaimed piano virtuoso Rosario Andino will perform at 3 p.m. Sept. 20 in Indian Hills St. John Auditorium on Sunday. The concert is free and open to the public.
Andino has had a long career as a performing pianist in the many years since her flight from communist Cuba. She was trained in the “old school” of the European tradition of keyboard greats going back to the students of Franz Liszt and others. Andino began her musical studies at age 4 and gave her first concert when she was 6 years old. Her performances have been acclaimed in the United States, Cuba, Mexico, Spain, England, Italy and Holland.
Since 2009 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Chopin and the 200th anniversary of the death of Franz Josef Haydn, the program will feature works by both composers as well as music of Liszt and others.
Having presented several previous concerts at Indian Hills, Andino is a Steinway Artist and will perform on a Steinway concert grand which will be brought to St. John Auditorium for the event.
A public reception with Andino will follow the performance.
Andino will also present a master class in St. John Auditorium at 1 p.m. Sept. 21. Area piano students will play for her comments and critiques. Any piano student or teacher who would like to work with Andino is asked to contact Michael Philipsen at Indian Hills to make arrangements. He can be reached at (641) 683-5224 or by e-mail at — mphilips@indianhills.edu.
Andino’s visit is supported by the Performing Arts Fund, a program of Arts Midwest and funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Iowa Arts Council, General Mills Foundation and Land O'Lakes Foundation.
