EDDYVILLE —
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont school board members received building reports from new principals Matt Johnson and Chris Fenster and Fremont Elementary Principal Joellen Harding-Breon this week.
Administrators are busy ironing out the details in getting computer tablets in the hands of students. Elementary students will use iPads (one for each student in grades four through six, while younger students will share units) and a KUNO 3 will be provided for each junior/senior high student.
In other news, Harding-Breon told board members that Fremont’s Summer Meals Program has been quite successful, sometimes feeding more than 100 people per day.
The program is funded by a grant through the United States Department of Agriculture and is designed to keep children eating healthy while school is out.
Fremont Elementary provides free meals to children all summer. Anyone under the age of 19 may eat for free. Adults may eat, too, if they pay for their meal. Harding-Breon notes that there is a strict policy against adults eating off of kid’s plates.
Monday through Friday, breakfast is provided from 8-8:30 a.m. while lunch is offered from 11:30 a.m. to noon. There are no income or residency requirements or registration. For more information, call Fremont Elementary at 641-933-4211.
In other business, board members also approved the hiring of several new employees this week to fill vacant positions.
