OTTUMWA —
Wapello County Engineer Brian Moore can handle almost everything in his line of work but decided he needed help with determining a road’s right-of-way.
During the Wapello County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, Moore told the board members he wanted JCG Land Services, Inc., to act as the county’s representative.
Moore told the supervisors a formal agreement should be in place when county crews work on roads. The agreement would also help when environmental problems are discovered.
Meanwhile, Bruce Severson lives in the area of Rock Bluff Road and decided to attend the board’s meeting. He said he hoped the board would agree to notify area residents when county crews were going to work near their properties.
Moore and the board members said they would discuss sending information to residents who would like an email about road work planned close to their properties.
When the supervisors questioned Moore, he said the environmental issue couldn’t be settled until 2014.
“Bruce, you said to take a closer look,” Moore said.
“And when you asked about future plans, you said 2013,” said Severson, looking at Supervisor Jerry Parker.
“That’s still my position — that it can be done,” Parker said.
Severson was pleased to hear about the email suggestion, and Supervisor Steve Siegel said the county would let him know where the crews are working.
“The information is only as good as the day is,” Severson said. “I would appreciate being in the loop.”
“It’s not an unreasonable thing,” Parker said. “Why not do a monthly update via regular mail?”
He also noted the suggested process could be very helpful when a major project is under way. Knowing where the right of way would be is important and having “three requests here” supports that, according to Parker.
“Give the county engineer your email,” Parker said to Severson.
