OTTUMWA —
Getting the help needed to handle a job causes smiles to occur.
And, that’s just what happened Tuesday evening during the Wapello County Supervisors meeting.
During the past few weeks, Mark Eckman of the Ottumwa Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and Holly Berg, the American Gothic House administrator, have asked the board members to help with a grant application.
The grant would help both the Visitors Bureau and the American Gothic House by providing a worker who would split hours between the two places.
But, about $2,000 more was needed so Eckman and Berg could actually handle their workload and be able to have breaks and some time off.
Eckman said the Iowa Cultural Grant officials are willing to supply $8,000 of the $10,000 needed.
“It’s great news,” Eckman said. “The cultural grant will be available if [the supervisors] can supply the $2,000.”
Eckman suggested sending a letter that stated the board was willing to contribute $2,000. While it’s “not a guarantee for the future, but it would show our willingness,” he added.
The board unanimously approved contributing the $2,000.
