EDDYVILLE —
The Eddyville City Council has approved a new city ordinance that will allow residents to drive golf carts on city streets.
The measure was approved on the first reading of the ordinance with council members waiving the second and third readings during this week’s meeting.
The new ordinance will allow residents, age 18 and older, to drive golf carts on city streets from dawn to dusk with purchase of an annual permit costing $25. Proof of insurance will be required, as will brakes, slow moving vehicle sign and a tall flag. Headlights and taillights will not be required. Speed limit will be set at 25 mph.
In another matter, council members agreed to have citations issued to five property owners for municipal infractions since they have not responded to requests by the city to clean up their unsafe or nuisance properties.
The council also learned that a court date has been set for another property which received a similar citation last month. An additional nuisance property will receive a two-week notice this month.
In other business the council:
• Decided to change meeting times to 5:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.
• Approved new carpet and tile for City Hall at an estimated cost of $5,200.
• Learned that the city park received a $15,000 grant from the Wapello County Non-Endowed Fund.
