It’s a fact of life.
When you’re using vehicles daily to travel the county and even the state, you need to replace them periodically.
That’s the spot the Wapello County Sheriff’s Department is in. Sheriff Mark Miller and his staff have submitted vehicle needs and other information to the Wapello County Board of Supervisors hoping the board will approve three purchases.
The board members will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Wapello County Courthouse to discuss the sheriff’s vehicle requests and other agenda items.
Supervisor Jerry Parker said Monday that the vehicles are patrol vehicles, which the sheriff uses daily.
“The law requires that we buy these vehicles through a lease purchase agreement,” he said. “We have to do a bond issue and a public hearing to see if the citizenship will allow it.”
The resolution has specified the lease purchase of three vehicles for the sheriff’s department and Miller hopes the supervisors will approve his request for a loan to purchase the vehicles for his department.
In a letter from South Ottumwa Savings Bank, Vice President Becky Davis Dimmitt agreed the bank could loan the sheriff $45,008 amortized with three annual payments of $16,863.90 at a fixed rate of 6 percent, with the first installment due one year from the date of the loan.
