Arraignment set in theft of three cars in three counties

EDDYVILLE — The arraignment has been set and the charges amended in the case of a Bloomfield man who allegedly stole three cars in one morning last month.

Nicholas Cody Cone, 21, of Bloomfield, was arrested the day before Thanksgiving near the Cargill Eddyville complex and charged with second-degree burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

The morning of Nov. 21, Cone allegedly stole a vehicle in Davis County, drove it to Monroe County, wrecked it, stole another vehicle in Monroe County, wrecked it in Wapello County, stole yet another vehicle in Wapello County and abandoned it near Eddyville, where sheriff deputies finally arrested him.

Cone also entered a Wapello County man’s garage with the alleged intent to steal his car but took off and stole a different vehicle a while later, Wapello County Sheriff Mark Miller previously told the Courier.

The final car was abandoned on old U.S. Highway 34 in western Wapello County, and Cone eluded officers on foot near the Cargill Eddyville complex before he was arrested.

Last week, Cone’s charges were amended to include third-degree burglary and second-degree theft in Wapello County and third-degree burglary and second-degree theft in Monroe County.

Cone’s arraignment has been set for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 16.

Cone was also given an order of discharge and was released to the supervision of the Department of Corrections for pretrial release.
