Fire takes home near Eddyville

EDDYVILLE — A rural Eddyville family is without a home following a fire that broke out late Thursday afternoon on 143rd Street just off Eddyville Road.

Wapello Rural Fire Chief Wes Woten said Friday that the Randy Reed home was a total loss and he didn’t have an exact dollar amount to report yet. He also noted there were no injuries.

“We believe the cause was electrical wiring problems,” Woten said. “By the time Randy reported the fire, he was working in the barn and saw smoke and flames.”

Then the south wind increased and pushed the fire right through the house, which was involved when firefighters arrived. Woten called the property a total loss.

“Not much of the home was standing and the wind was hampering our effort,” the chief said.

Eddyville Fire Department assisted Wapello Rural by hauling water.
