OTTUMWA —
Chief Wapello will soon end his tour of the county and take a much-needed trip to Omaha, where he will be repaired and restored to his old self.
Wapello County supervisor Jerry Parker said the board will review its contract agreement with Jensen Conservation Services to repair Chief Wapello at its meeting Tuesday.
“Sometime after [Oct.] 15, they will be coming down to get him, take him back, and they’ll probably keep him for most of the winter,” Parker said.
Parker said the chief has just a couple of public appearances left before he is taken away for repairs.
The statue will cost $22,900 to repair, Parker said, but the county doesn’t have to worry about paying for it.
“It’s all paid by insurance,” Parker said. “No fundraising, no nothing. We’re very fortunate. Since he was attached to the courthouse, they say he was a part of the courthouse.”
Jordan Scupien, the county’s mapping coordinator, will discuss a visit from information technology (IT) peers across the state to look at Wapello County’s IT issues and possible solutions.
“They come and review a county upon request to see how they stack up relating to IT things,” Parker said. “They can make recommendations.”
United Way of Wapello County Executive Director Desiree Johnson will present to the board a proposal for the supervisors to make a contribution to the UWWC.
“We’ve never done anything like that before,” Parker said.
The supervisors will also discuss the hire of a correctional officer for the sheriff’s department and other bookkeeping business.
The supervisors will meet at 5:30 p.m. tonight on the third floor of the Wapello County Courthouse.
