CENTERVILLE —
On Friday, March 1, students at Lakeview Elementary School in Centerville kicked off a month-long reading promotion and competition called “We are Succ-Seuss-Ful Readers.”
Students in third grade will measure their reading by the number of pages read, and students in fourth-sixth grade will measure their reading through the number of Accelerated Reading points they earn in the month of March. Each week the classroom in each grade that has read the most pages or earned the most AR points will go first in the lunch line and receive a special prize. At the end of the month those criteria will determine which classes are pizza party winners.
Friday was also the day to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Some students and Claire Byl, the librarian, dressed up as Dr. Seuss characters. Also we had Drop Everything and Read Day. The students carried a book with them wherever they went in case the announcement came over the intercom to Drop Everything and Read.
