Survivors' stories wanted

The Road Less Traveled

OTTUMWA — Two years ago, my predecessor, Judy Krieger, decided to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month with stories from our readers who, directly and/or indirectly, have been impacted by breast cancer.

We want to do the same thing again this year. We’re asking for stories from our readers who have been touched by breast cancer or any other form of cancer.

As Judy said two years ago, most of us have been touched in some way by cancer: “We may be dealing with it right now. We know family and friends who are dealing with it. We know people who have lost the battle, but we also know people who have fought it and won.”

The stories will be featured throughout the month of October. You will easily find them in the paper — just look for the pink ribbon.

Think about sending us a story. It does not have to be long. In fact, we ask that submissions be 300 words or less. We would also like to run a photo of the person who submitted their story, if possible. Finally, we ask that those who have had stories printed the past two years to refrain from submitting a story this year.

Please send your information to “Cancer Stories,” c/o Ottumwa Courier, 213 E. Second St., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.

You also may email your story to jeff@ottumwacourier.com or fax to 641-684-7326.

If you have any questions, call me at 641-683-5365, or 800-532-1504, ext. 333.

The deadline is Sept. 27.
