CENTERVILLE —
The Appanoose County Board of Supervisors plan to appoint a temporary county attorney during a 9 a.m. special meeting Thursday in the boardroom at the county courthouse.
Board Chairman Dean Kaster said he found out early Tuesday morning Appanoose County Attorney Richard Scott would not be in his office. Kaster said he received his information from some of Scott's associates.
"He (Scott) will not be able to be in the office for a few days and we are going to appoint a temporary county attorney because we do need somebody in that position to handle the duties of that office," Kaster said by telephone Tuesday afternoon.
Kaster said the Code of Iowa gives the Board of Supervisors the authority to temporarily appointment a county attorney.
Kaster hinted he knew of Scott's whereabouts but could not talk about it because of HIPPA regulations.
Kaster said he had not talked to the Davis County attorney and Scott's temporary replacement would probably come from a neighboring county in the opposite direction.
Rick Lynch, the Davis County attorney, filled in for Scott for approximately 30 days when Scott's law license was temporarily suspended by the Iowa Supreme Court May 2. Scott's law license was reinstated May 30.
