Work begins on Knoxville fire station

KNOXVILLE — The floor has been torn up. Ceiling tiles have been removed and at least one coat of paint has been spread on the walls as the renovation of the Knoxville Fire Station interior has begun.

The work done so far has been piecemeal, as firefighters are working on it as they have time. A work day on the project may continue in the future.

As previously reported, the station will have new cabinets installed, in addition to the improvements already mentioned. There is no tentative completion date.

The fire department is eager for the arrival of its third ambulance. Last week, both ambulances were unavailable, as they were being used to transport patients out of town. Pella Ambulance provided support at that time.

Volunteers are also getting ready for the Knoxville Nationals, and an anticipated call volume. Mercy has offered assistance to the department during the Nationals.
