CENTERVILLE —
A 40 inch by 52 inch digital reproduction lithograph of the United States Constitution will be a part of the Appanoose County Courthouse beginning Thursday, Oct. 4.
The dedication of the digital reproduction lithograph Constitution at the Appanoose County Courthouse is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 4 on the south side steps.
Representatives from the V.F.W., American Legion and Appanoose County will be on hand for the presentation.
The lithograph was originally printed in 1934 and many were discovered in 1987 in Chicago. The lithograph to hang in the Appanoose County Courthouse is a digital reproduction made from the original.
The lithograph is framed in ornate gold with blue matting. The exterior depicts scenes of historical significance and the attached plaque reads: "Dedicated to: All of the Counties VFW's, American Legions, AMVETS, Sons of American Legion, all auxiliary members, Iowa National Guard, and honoring all citizens in Appanoose County."
Gary Stephenson, of Webster County, has been on a mission to have a replica Constitution hang in every Iowa county Courthouse. Because of his father’s foresight to purchase many of them they are now being made available to Iowa courthouses.
The Appanoose County Veterans Affairs director Lisa Owens and commissioners James Carter, Ron Burger and Arn Pilkenton and the Appanoose County Board of Supervisors Dean Kaster, Jody McDanel and Linda Rouse contributed to the project.
