CENTERVILLE —
The 2012 Appanoose County Relay For Life was held from 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday, June 2-Sunday, June 3 at Paul Johnson Field in Centerville.
The crowd was welcomed to the event by Centerville Mayor Jim Senior, who also gave the opening prayer. Shelby Stufflebeam sang the national anthem as the flag was raised by local Boy Scouts. KMGO’s Edwin Brand emceed the event.
Relay For Life Chair Tarah Moore announced that as of Saturday evening more than $16,000 had been raised. Awards were also handed out to local sponsors to thank them for their contributions.
Relay For Life honorary chair Becky Wray also spoke during the opening ceremony. Wray is a 10 year cancer survivor.
Erin Lawson, daughter of Nancy Sayres, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer Feb. 19 also spoke to the crowd at Paul Johnson Field. The 2012 Appanoose County Relay For Life was dedicated to Sayres’ memory
Entertainment was present throughout the evening with students from Buffy’s Dance Department and Dance X-pressions entertaining the crowd.
