Appanoose County man sent to prison for forgery, probation violation

CENTERVILLE — An Appanoose County man found guilty of forgery and violation of probation was sentenced to five years in state prison.

Steven Edward Stickler Jr., 22, of Centerville, entered a voluntary, negotiated guilty plea June 15, 2012 to one count of forgery, a class D felony. On the same day Judge Kirk A. Daily sentenced him to five years in prison and credit for any time served.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Appanoose County Sheriff deputy Todd Craver, the forgery charge stems from an incident reported on Feb. 1, 2012, where Stickler Jr. took a $564 payroll check not in his name to a convenience store in Centerville where it was cashed. A surveillance camera at the store confirmed Stickler Jr. was at the store and presented what appeared to be a check.

The five year forgery sentence was ordered to run concurrently with a five year prison sentence that had been suspended. That sentence was handed down in April of 2010 for Stickler's guilty plea and subsequent conviction for one count of controlled substance violation. On Feb. 3, 2012, Stickler Jr. was accused of violating his probation and on June 15 the court revoked his probation and imposed the original five year prison sentence.

In the prior case, Stickler delivered 1/4 of an ounce of marijuana to a confidential informant for $50.

He owes the state nearly $2,300 for these two cases.
