PELLA —
On Thursday March 29, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Pella dispatch received a 911 call requesting an ambulance for a man caught in a dump truck at Hagen’s Tree Service, located in the 600 block of Hwy. T-14. Pella Police, fire/ambulance, and Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
When rescue personnel arrived they found the body of John “Jack” Allen Hagens, of Pella. The investigation showed Mr. Hagen was attempting to secure a tarp to the bed of a dump truck. While standing between the raised truck bed and the cab of the truck, it appears Mr. Hagen's leg inadvertently hit the release leaver on the truck, thus sending the raised bed down onto Mr. Hagen, causing his death.
Mr. Hagen was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy is scheduled by the State Medical Examiner’s Office, in Ankeny.
This case remains under investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
